| ISSUE: |
| Need to install LabStats on multiple computers at one time. |
| SOLUTION: |
| This solution is 4 parts.
1.) Request a Custom Installer You can do this by contacting support via support@computerlabsolutions.com with your current LabStats Server Version and Server IP Address.
2.) Create a Distribution Point
To publish or assign a computer program, you must create a distribution point on the publishing server:
a.) Log on to the server computer as an administrator.
b.) Create a shared network folder where you will put the Microsoft Windows Installer package (LabStatsAuto.msi file) that you want to distribute.
c.) Set permissions on the share to allow access to the distribution package. You could create a group that would apply to only LabStats computers.
d.) Copy or install the package to the distribution point.
3.) Create a Group Policy Object
To create a Group Policy object (GPO) to use to distribute the software package:
a.)Start the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in. To do this, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Users and Computers.
b.) In the console tree, right-click your domain and then click Properties.
c.) Click the Group Policy tab, and then click New. d.) Type a name for this new policy (for example, LabStats Install), and then press ENTER. e.) Click Properties, and then click the Security tab. f.) Click to select the Apply Group Policy check box for the groups that you want this policy to apply to. Potentially create a new group for PC's that you want to install on and add it here. (for example you could create a group called Labstats and add computers to that group) g.) When you are finished, click OK.
4.) Deploy and Assign the GPO to Computers
To perform the deployment:
a.) Open the Group Policy Editor. To assign an application to a Computer(s), navigate through the group policy console to Computer Configuration | Software Settings | Software Installation.
Note: You will need to be careful to make sure that the policy applies to the appropriate computers. After the GPO has been assigned and deployed the computers will need to be restarted for the GPO to push this install out silently.
b.) Now, right click on the Software Installation container and select the New | Package commands from the shortcut menu. c.) Select the appropriate MSI file and click Open. d.) You are now asked whether you want to publish or assign the application. Choose assign and click OK. |
